Chocolate Beer for Valentines Day!

Chocolate is the classic gift on Valentines day, so what could be better than a chocolate beer for the beer lover in your life?  If you head over to the Valentine blog post on  CraftBeer.com, you’ll find that two of their top ten beers come from our own back yard.

If you have a craving for beer, chocolate and cherries, then you could do much worse than a Chocolate Seduction from Brewery Ommegang.  In the words of the brewer “Ommegang Seduction is lovingly brewed with six dark malts. Chocolatier Callebut
provides the chocolate, while Liefmans brings the cherries. This international romance is
consumated with a full body, alluring aromas and flavors of Belgian chocolate, and tart
cherries. Seduction is an ale to be lovingly embraced.

Beautiful, rich and smooth, roasty and malty throughout, Seduction offers balanced
chocolate-cherry notes, a bit of caramel sweetness, and a long, slow finish. Seduction is
welcoming and warm-hearted, gently hopped and harbors no bitterness, leaving only
a lingering glow.

Tipping the scales at 11% ABV, stout lovers may also want to give the Southern Tier Imperial Choklat Stout a try.  Here is a beer that combines roasted malt and Belgian chocolate in the same glass.

SCBC Holiday Party

For our December 2011 meeting (Dec 13th), the SCBC will be hosting our annual holiday party.  This year we will be holding the event at the Polish Home on Park Ave (where we normally hold our meetings).  It’s a pot luck, so everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass, we will have drink specials, and we’ll again be doing the popular Beer Exchange.  More details to follow.

We’ll also be accepting nominations for club officers for January elections.  If you’ve ever thought of stepping-up and lending a hand, this is a great way to do so.

Message from the SCBC President:

Hi All,

Before I go into announcing the next meeting, I have an announcement of my own… I have recently accepted a job in St. Louis and therefore can no longer act as president of the club. I want to thank everyone I met through this great organization!! In fact when I first moved to Syracuse I made my first friends through the club and have continued to nurture those friendships and make may more throughout the years.
The type of good people good beers attracts never ceases to amaze me!!

I’m actually currency in St. Louis so I will not be at the next meeting (Nov 8th). Although I will be at the Blue Tusk for the Great Lakes X-Mass Party (on Thursday Nov 10th) and at the Duvel Day (On Friday Nov 11th). If you can make it down to say bye great if not I wish all of you the best and hope our paths cross again in the future. Please stay in touch via facebook, LinkedIn, email or phone and if you’re ever in St. Louis look me up I’m sure I’ll know all the good places to go :-)
So the next meeting in tomorrow (Nov 8th). Please bring your brewing Gadgets for a little show and tell!! Owen will be running the meeting. You may also want to do nominations and start thinking of topics for next years.

Best of luck to all of you it’s truly been an honor getting to know you!!
